Nursing
Shortage Legislation
SB572
was signed by the Govenor on June 17, 2001. The bill relates to the reduction
of the shortage of registered nurses by establishing a program to increase
enrollments in nursing education programs, increasing nursing faculty,
and creating a nursing workforce data center.
Although the legislature did not appropriate money directly, funds were made available from two existing sources to support the act: 1) Dramatic Growth Funds 2) Tobacco Settlement Funds The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board will establish rules and procedures to assist nursing education programs in meeting the demand for increased numbers of nursing graduates. Grant applications and procedures are expected by the end of August. |

| A
3-year-old boy went with his father to see a litter of kittens. On returning
home, he breathlessly informed his mother that there were 2 boy kitties
and 2 girl kitties. "How do you know?" his mother asked. "Daddy picked them up and looked underneath," he replied, "I think it's printed on the bottom." |
