Vicki Hurst

Vicki Hurst, RNc, CP/CA-SANE, SANE-A graduated from the Associate Degree Nursing Program in 1992. Since that time Vickie has been employed at CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System in a variety of positions.

She began her career as a staff nurse on a post surgical unit and in 1998 she was promoted to clinical coordinator of that unit. As clinical coordinator Vickie was responsible for staff assignments, orientation and precepting new employees, and staff development.

She has been instrumental in developing and presenting at numerous inservices for all nursing personnel such as Urology Update and Delegation Dilemmas. Vickie was chairperson for the Role Redesign Program which spanned over several months for all nursing employees of CHRISTUS.

For the past eight years Vickie has served as a preceptor for associate degree nursing students and new graduates. She has repeatedly told her former faculty at Texarkana College the pride she feels in being an associate degree nurse.

In 2001 Vickie accepted the position of manager of ambulatory care unit and preadmissions. She has the responsibility for managing 17 nurses and a unit that averages 1800 cases per month.


Since 1994 Vickie has been certified in medical-surgical nursing through ANCC. For the past 2 ½ years Vickie has been working toward certification as a sexual assault nurse examiner and is now certified in pediatrics, adolescents and adults with the Attorney General's Office of Texas and also is certified in adolescent and adults with IFN (International Association of Forensic Nurses).

She is a member of International Association of Forensic Nurses, the American Nurses Association, The Texas Nurses Association, a board member of TNA District 28. She was honored as TNA District 28 Nurse of the Year in 1999 and 2002. In addition she is a member of the American Heart Association, a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America with whom she teaches BLS and assists with physical exams.

Vicki Hurst is well respected by administration of her hospital, physicians, peers, educators and the community for her dedication and leadership in nursing.
